Not being shy, here's the Star Wars group. You've seen them all
before. They didn't dance much, but what the heck; we love 'em anyway and it's a
darned good shot.

My grandfather, however, was an inveterate dancer and was on the floor
for most of the night. Woo hoo! I hope to be that kickin' when I'm his age! The
majority of the dancers were my family, but by the time we got to the "dancing"
stage of the night the ten disposable cameras we'd left for candid shots had been all
filled up. So unfortunately, despite the fact that the Steinmetz half was really
rockin', there wasn't a whole lot of pics of it. But the DJ said that for a
reasonably small reception we were tremendously enthusiastic dancers.
And at the end of the night my Grampop even danced with Gini! How cool is that?
Even though this photo makes Gin look like she's about to sneeze, they seemed to
enjoy themselves. |

I also had a great time when the DJ played "We Are Family"
and I immediately dragged my grandmother and my uncle out on the dance floor to
hopo around in a circle. My mother immediately squirmed her way in, and we had a
great time, although my grandmother seemed a little perplexed. She's not the dancing
type, or at least not to old funk tunes. But it was during this that I realized
that I loved my family to all hell, and that Gini at long last was a part of
my family now. She had joined. And that filled me with so much pride I could
damn near have cried.
This is Tom and my ex-babysitter Sheryl whooping it up, too! |

One of the other highlights of the night was when the brides' party did
"YMCA", in honor of the last time we all got together. (Suffice it to say
that I, Ralph, Dave Phillips*, and bestselling Star Wars author Kevin Anderson got
together at a cheesy little dive in Tulsa, Oklahoma and did karaoke "YMCA" for
an enthusiastic crowd. We weren't the weirdest thing that night, though; that would
be the three men in full-out Klingon garb singing old country songs. But that's a
sci-fi convention for you.) Here we see Shez, Gini, and Linda as M, C, and A, with
Gabe unfortunately cut off by a cruel whim of fate. The end of the night was highlighted
by the Electric Slide and the Macarena, both of which I stayed way the hell away from.
As I said, I'll dance sometimes, but those two are just evil incarnate.
My bride, on the left, evidently did not agree. (g)
* - Dave Phillips is the guy who runs Echo Station and owns the server this web page is
being sucked up on your computer from. Thank him. A lot. He's very
cool. And thank his wife Loren while you're at it, since Dave and Loren and Gini and
I all got married on the same day September 19th. Dave also met his wife on
the internet. On Compuserve. While discussing Star Wars. And started
their romance while she was in the throes of a divorce. And moved to another state
to be with her. Some days I think we're just a pale shadow of them.... |
That's it. |
There will be more, but for right now we're waiting for Gin's pictures of
the Silvermine Tavern to come in. Our final song was Fatboy Slim's "Praise
You" at about 10:30, and I think the lyrics are very apropros.... "We've
come a long long way together / through the hard times and the good / I have to
celebrate you, baby / I have to praise you like I should...."
And I should. Thanks to all for coming. Thanks so much for making it one of
the best days of my life. And I mean that.
Hugs,
